Personal Training

Every trainer has their own specialty and finding one to fit your goals as well as your personality, is important. I can’t emphasize enough how important good instruction is to make the most of your membership at 5th Street. It’s like anything else; if you want to get better at what you do more quickly, hire an expert. I myself have helped people who’ve trained for years and after they’ve worked with me they say they feel like what they’d been doing all these years was wrong. Don’t waste time! Let me tell you a bit about the trainers here at 5th Street Fitness.

All the trainers with the exception of Shellie Schulze are independent trainers. That means that they DO NOT work for 5th Street but in fact, rent the space here to run their own businesses. That means that you pay them and not the gym for their services. We feel that this keeps the highest quality trainers at our facility. All of them will offer you a sample of what they do for free. So I suggest that you give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Here’s a sampling of trainers at 5th Street Fitness.

Chuck Mignosa

Mignosa’s “Old School” Weight Training
Chuck has been training for over 30 years. He has been at 5th Street Fitness since it first opened in 1992. In fact he was here when it wasn’t anything more than a vision in my mind. Back then we had a saying: “If we build it; they will come.” And they did! 1100 members were signed up during presale. And Chuck was part of that from day one. His training style is definitely “old school” and he’s helped many members over the years to get in great shape, including taking his wife Linda to championship status including a 1st place in the Ms. America bodybuilding competition. And as an added bonus when you train with Chuck, you get his unique brand of humor to get you through the really tough sets. “Chuck has helped Tim and I lose over 40 lbs. between the 2 of us and we did it in 8 weeks! We’ll never stop training with Chuck. He’s the reason we are in the shape of our lives.” —John Torres and Tim Webb

Grant Elliott

GE Fitness
Grant is a single dad to a son – Logan, and has been in gyms for over 25 years. With a lifetime of competitive sports behind him, including an athletic scholarship to college in Southern California, he is well qualified as a trainer for the athlete as well as those brand new to fitness. He believes that at one time or another, everyone needs help with their workouts. He feels that the average person needs strong motivation and direction to keep going long enough to see the results they need to see to make fitness a long term commitment. Grant says that if you’d just like to “kick his tires” that he is offering a special introductory rate for first timers. Until January 1, 2008, he’s offering 3 sessions for $99.00! “I came to Grant at a weight of 150 lbs, and a body fat measurement of 29%. Today I weigh in at 118 lbs. with my body fat measurement at only 18%!” —Kiarsten Gill

Shellie Schulze

5th Street Fitness House Trainer
Shellie loves her job! Of course I’d say that… but she really does. Just ask any of her clients. In fact Shellie only works part time at 5th Street and I wish she’d do more. I could fill her days for sure, but her husband Ken would probably kill me. Shellie loves helping people feel better, be stronger, wear the next size down and GET RID OF BACK PAIN. At one time her days were filled with couch sitting, TV watching and refrigerator emptying. She realized that she had to make changes but that last thing she wanted to do was join a gym and hire a trainer. But she did, and the rest is history. She loved it so much she decided to make it her career! Shellie has a unique ability to make fitness seem attainable to everyone.

Fitness comes in all shapes and sizes and Shellie wants everyone to know that the most important thing is that you improve your fitness level, not that everyone should fit into a size 4. And judging by the amount of sweat I’ve seen some of her clients losing, I’d say her workouts are tough enough for anyone! “Shell, YOU ROCK! I was extremely impressed with your training. Allow me to say that you are, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the BEST personal trainer in Santa Rosa! I’m excited to see what you can do with my training!” — Dr. Dave Lincoln

Bobbei Blu Barnes

For Bobbei, fitness has always been an integral part of his life. AT the age of 14 he started running and lifting weights at SRJC. He’s been involved in fitness training since 2001 and became certified in 2007 by The International Sports Science Association. He has also practiced martial arts for the last 14 years, with an emphasis on kickboxing, judo and wing chun kung fu. He trained and competed in kickboxing until joining the military and in judo after his 6 years of service.

He is currently working towards a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in the culinary arts! His passion is for helping people to make positive changes to better their lives. He enjoys seeing people get healthier and feel better about themselves.

“Exercising and living healthy isn’t a sprint but a marathon. A change of life takes time to develop and that means pinpointing and eliminating bad habits and creating healthy ones. The first changes are to get off the couch and into the gym! And I’m here to help you every step of the way.”

Alton J. Sanders

I’m Alton J. Sanders, and first I must tell you all that I LOVE what I do. I have been involved with fitness since I can remember and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I completed my BA in Physical Education at Chico State University, and found the adventure of bodywork was where I wanted to continue my work. I began taking yoga classes in 1994 and found that my body, mind and spirit began to join in such a harmonious way that I wanted to further my understanding. At the end of 2006 I became Yoga Alliance certified and began teaching Yoga classes at Yoga Junction in Suisun California, Sky Hill Institute in Petaluma and most recently Dr. Tucker Chiropractic and Fifth Street Fitness in Santa Rosa.

Body Sculpting has been a passion of mine since I was a teenager and I have gathered extensive knowledge, practical experience and schooling on the human body and movement. Also being a teacher of anatomy, physiology and massage for almost 10 years at two of the largest massages schools in California; Trinity College, National Holistic Institute. I always say to my clients that movement is the key to health and the proper tools needed to reach your dreams is patients and the caring teacher within yourself. I truly feel that I can provide what you need to reach your personal goals and become the true being that you are, as they say, “Just ask”.

I have worked with chiropractors, physical therapists, health care providers, and professional body workers while establishing my own business in 1999. The bodywork industry has enriched my life and given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge in the arts of LaStone®, Esalen massage and Reiki. At the present time I am putting most of my energy into my own business at Spiritual Fitness and Bodywork Center while enjoying instructing yoga and fitness to as many clients as possible. Yoga is a path of peace, and knowing ones own body while enjoying life to our fullest potential. I LOVE what I do and I hope that I can facilitate you to experience the serenity, beauty and tranquility of yoga, fitness and bodywork.

“Take one moment and find peace ………..All Ways”
